Camp Artsy WaWa –

Beginning June 3rd and continuing every Monday in June, July and August the club will host a fun-filled day of art (9:00-12:00). This isn’t a class or a workshop but rather a social gathering of art and art-related activities.  Come summertime, when the snow birds fly away, art club members who live here year round can easily feel a bit isolated.  Camp Artsy WaWa is a way for us to stay connected and have fun through art.
You can sign-up in the art room beginning May 14th where you’ll find the “Club Artsy Wawa” notebook detailing each week’s activities/month.  Sign-up early as space may be limited.  These get-together days are for SWAC club members only. The last day to sign up for June is May 29th.   With a name like Camp Artsy Wawa you know this is about having fun. Sign-up is to help us prepare art ‘kits’ and food when indicated.

October 15th  Ricki Nordmeyer teaching Mandala Dot Painting. 9 – 4

You could say my  artist life began with paint by number kits when I was 8. But truly my art life began with an oil painting class I took in the early 80’s. Creating tryptychs, animal paintings and landscapes especially barns. Leaving the creative life for a career as a librarian I returned to it as we retired to SCW in 2010. Since then I have enjoyed acrylics, pastels and mixed media classes . I enjoy all media, but am primarily a realistic painter. Between the two periods of painting, I have filled up all the walls in my house.

I discovered Dot Mandala Painting a couple of years ago, and despite the seeming complexity of the designs, found that it is a remarkably relaxing form of art. It is the Zen thing. The Class plan is for students to finish 2 small canvases by the end of the day. One will be a mandala done by all, and the 2nd will be student’s choice of a dot painting, perhaps a scene, or another mandala.

For a $10 supply fee, students will receive a kit which includes, 10 dotting tools, (5 nail styluses & 5 crystallite crochet hooks) a plastic palette,  and 2  4” canvases.

Other Supplies : If  you have fluid acrylics or simple craft paint, bring thecolors you would like to use. I will have a vast array of colors available for any who do not already have them.

November 12th.       Marilyn Watkins teaching Metal & Metal Effects added to Acrylics. 9 – 4

The all day workshop will show you how to incorporate metal and metal effects into an acrylic painting….using gold, copper, or silver leaf, heavy duty embossed foils, patina effects with metallic and iron paints and thin pieces of metal. You will come away with at least two paintings.

December 10th and 17th  Gayle Ihlenfeldt teaching Gourd Painting.  9 – 4 both days

Gayle will be demonstrating principles of art design, wood burning techniques, the use of gourd inks and leather dyes, and finishing techniques. She will give start to finish, step by step instructions, as each student creates and burns in their design. The student will leave the workshop with a completed project.

January 14th   Pat Ryan teaching Alcohol Ink.  9 – 12

January 21st  Pat Ryan teaching Alcohol Ink. 1 – 4

Learn to move the inks on tile while you paint a beautiful abstract landscape with birch trees. You will also learn to paint flowers with two different centers, one is blown using a straw the other is painted using micro brushes. We will explore using different types of paper including photo paper, yupo paper and black glossy card stock.

February 11th  Patti Hoffert teaching Scratchboard 9 – 4.

Learn the technique of scratchboard drawing using tools to “scratch” your picture onto the inked surface.  You’ll pick out a simple picture of your choice, learn how to transfer that picture to your surface and then begin the process of scratching the picture onto the painted surface.  You’ll learn several different scratching techniques for a variety of effects.  You’ll leave at the end of the day with most if not all of your work done for a completed scratchboard piece of art.  Supply fee – $15.00 for scratchboard and tools.

March 10th Emily Stevens teaching Fabric Painting.  9-4

Come learn various techniques for painting fabric with lots of different paints (Dyna Flow, Jacquard Fabric paint, Seta Color). The variety of paints and the techniques will help you discover what works best for you.  We will venture into painting birds.  You will go home with samples of pa inted birds on fabric that are painted by you.  The birds will be painted from pre created designs.  All paints and fabrics are supplied.
